Tournament Rules
The Blue Chip Basketball tournament is a tournament benefiting childhood obesity. This tournament is meant to keep our kids active healthy and fit. This tournament is also for young and older adults as well in hopes of bringing our communities together in a peaceful atmospher.
PIEDMONT PARK TOURNAMENT RULES
This tournament will begin at 9am on JUNE 16, June 15th will be the last day for registration. This will be a weekend tournament consisting of no less than 20 teams each team will play multiple games. Your first game determines your playoff bracket. Simple if you loose your first game you will not be eligible for the playoffs but you will be eligible to play more games. Because, this is a benefit tournament most all teams will receive participation medals or trophies allotted by the number available. Some teams may be required to play mutlple games within the same day.
Weather: in case of incliment weather a rain date will be set to play at a later date or may be moved to a gymanasium.
The first rule of this tournament is absolutely no fighting. Fighting automatically disqualifies you from competition.
NBA Rules apply with exception of zone. Zone and press defense are allowed but if teams are up by more then 20 points we may ask to ease up on zone and press defense to permit fair competition.
Teams should have a minimum of 7 players to allow for substitutions if you only have 7 players and your players foul out technical foul shots will be assesed each time that player commits another foul. Secondary option is to place single person who does not have a team on your team as a substitute (but must be done before the start of the game)
If you are a single person and don't have a team you must sign up online or at the desk prior to the games.
Team match ups will be evenly paired based on skill level and age group (example: 5 to 7 years old will play other 5 to 7 year olds but if you request you or your team play an older or more advanced team accomodations can be met.)
Each game will be played in Halves with the exception of the championship games which will be played in quaters. Most games are generly 10 minutes per half Young adult and Adult games will are generly between 15 to 20 minutes running time.
The weather will determine the number of minutes played for the childrens outdoor tournament if it is above 85 degrees time may be reduced by 2 or 3 minutes to ensure the safety of our young.
Each team will have 2 regular timeouts and 1 20 sec timeout per half. For Championship game it will be 2 regular timeouts and 2 20 second timeouts per half.
There will be no shot clock for young children, depending on park requirements shot clock maybe on for young adults and adult games.
